WHAT IS DYSPORT®?

For the temporary improvement of moderate to severe glabellar lines

Dysport is an acetylcholine release inhibitor and a neuromuscular blocking agent indicated for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines associated with procerus and corrugator muscle activity in adult patients less than 65 years of age.

What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only approved treatment to temporarily improve the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet lines in adults.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most extensively studied medical aesthetic treatments and is approved for cosmetic use in 78 countries.* BOTOX® Cosmetic has a record of experience that aesthetic specialists know and trust. And, the safety and efficacy of BOTOX® Cosmetic have been evaluated in both Allergan sponsored clinical trials as well as in 417 peer-reviewed articles in scientific and medical journals.

BOTOX® Cosmetic contains tiny amounts of a highly purified botulinum toxin protein refined from the bacterium, Clostridium botulinum. Formulations, potency, and approved doses vary among botulinum toxin products, which means that one product cannot take the place of another. Those are a few reasons why there is no such thing as a “generic” form of BOTOX® Cosmetic.

What is the difference between DYSPORT™ & BOTOX®?

Dysport and Botox, are all injectable neuromodulators, meaning they can temporarily alter the nerve impulses of targeted muscles, therefore reducing or eliminating contraction-induced wrinkles.

Each brand has a slightly different formulation of the same substance, bacterium Clostridium Botulinum, or Botulinum Toxin A, but they all work the same way: they block the nerve impulses of the injected muscles to temporarily paralyze muscle movements that cause wrinkles. The most common targets are horizontal lines across the forehead and perpendicular frown lines between the brows (also called “The Elevens”), but many also rely on Dysport and Botox for crow’s feet, nasal squint lines, lines around the neck, eyebrow lifting, and even profuse underarm sweating and migraines.

They are very similar. In certain situations, one may get a slightly different reaction versus the other. Dysport has a little bit more diffusion, which is better for correcting a lot of little crow’s feet because it has a more even distribution. In general, both can be used interchangeably.

When administered properly, the effects are confined to the injection zone and do not affect the surrounding areas or travel around the body, as commonly feared.

By reducing the intensity and frequency of contraction-induced wrinkles, these treatments also prevent the formation of deeper lines in the long run, making them an increasingly popular anti-aging strategy.

Do Cosmetic treatments hurt?

Some patients report that injections feel like a pinch. Your specialist may use ice to numb the treatment area. If you are concerned about discomfort, your specialist may apply a topical numbing cream before administering your treatment.

Your specialist will discuss your treatment goals and concerns as well as perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatments for you. The actual injection process takes about 10 minutes.

When will I see results?

You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours for moderate to severe frown lines, with results lasting up to 4 months.

How long is the recovery time after treatment?

After your treatment, you can resume your day. There is minimal downtime and your specialist may give you specific aftercare instructions.

Do men receive Facial Aesthetic treatments?

Yes.  According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 10% of all cosmetic procedures performed in the United States in 2014 were on men—that is more than 1 million cosmetic procedures. The number of cosmetic procedures for men increased by 273% from 1997 to 2014.
